Crackle Comparisons

Crackle polishes are huge at the moment. Every brand seems to have jumped on the bandwagon and brought out their own versions. Here in the UK, I'd say Barry M started the trend with their Instant Nail Effects in Black Magic. They flew off the shelves in stores as everyone wanted to try them out. I currently have five different crackle polishes so today I'll be showing you how they look and what I think of them.

L - R

Models Own Silver Smash-up, Barry M Nail Effects Black, Barry M Nail Effects Pink, Layla Graffiti, 17 Crackle Top Coat.

I used a base colour of Barry M Bright Purple for each nail. Of course the design of each nail will look different depending on the colour you choose as a base.

How good are each polishes?

As you can see the different polishes produced different crackles. Models Own and 17 created a look with more horizontal lines, whereas Barry M and Layla created an all over crackle effect.

I was surprised that Layla was the quickest to crackle and 17 took the longest to produce the finished look. However after a few minutes all of the polishes had finished 'crackling'.

Against the purple base colour, my favourites looks were Barry M Instant Nail Effects in black and Models Own Silver Smash-up. Overall I think the Barry M in black would be the easiest to wear as it would go with all colours.

Price

Models Own - £6
Barry M - £3.99
Layla - I won this, and unfortunately cannot find a price for it online.
17 - £3.99

17 have only released one crackle polish, but the other brands featured have a collection of polishes. Layla is currently only available in Italy I believe, but correct me if I'm wrong!

Crackle Collections

Models Own

Models Own has once more joined forces with London nail salon WAH to create the Smash-Up collection of nine crackle nail polishes with a graffiti twist. You can buy the silver and black exclusively in Boots and the rest of the collection should be available by the end of the month on Models Own website.

Barry M

Since Barry M first released their black Nail Effects polish, they have released a further three in white, pink and blue. These are available to buy in Superdrug, Boots or on their website. Personally I didn't like the look of the blue, so I've just bought the pink and black and I already have the white Layla.

What do you think of the crackle trend?

Do you own crackle polishes? If so, which ones?

I have the OPI Black Shatter, it's absolutely amazing. The design is more like the Barry M :) I think I have a NOTD using it. x

This is such a good idea for a post. I think I like the original Barry M ones the best but I was going to buy the Models Own one but the Boots which I visited didn't have any :-(

I love crackle polishes. Everyone seems to be moaning because every company is doing crackle polishes now but they all do normal polishes so why not?! I only have Models Own Silver and Barry M Black but I'm looking forward to Models Own's other ones as the colours look amazing!

Karla - Thank you :) Barry M do a good selection of colours, I just hope my local Boots will stock the Models Own ones when you come out!

Jess - I agree! I'll probably end up with them all! Opps! Such great colours though!

Olivia - They're just called nails wheels, sometimes colour wheels :)I bought mine from Ebay recently. It's best to check their first, they're so cheap!

Yep! I have the black Barry M and I'd like the pink one too. Such an easy fix for chipped polish or a botched stamping job lol.

Great post, good idea to compare the effect polishes out there!
I have the standard Barry M black crackle, but my friend recently bought the pink one and it looks gorgeous on top of grey polish so I think that will be my next purchase!
Really impressed with the range of colours from Models Own, loving the look of the Silver in your test!

Alicia - Do you use top coat as well? That seems to help and doesn't ruin the effect.

Erin - I agree! Barry M all the way!

Sophie - Thank you! Crackle polishes are just a simple way to jazz up your nails without having to be good at nail art!

Adrienne - Yep and they're the cheapest!

Laura - Totally agree. If my polish chips but I don't have time to do a full mani, I just use a crackle polish!

Seo!ana - Thanks for the tip! I'm trying to find different colours that look good together.
